Over romantic dresses, oversize jumpers, mid-season jackets, red-carpet gowns… even swimsuits! The belt, an accessory forgotten while the low-waist trend was in vogue in the beginning of the millennium, has gain in importance over the last seasons to become the king of accessories this spring-summer 2015. Many of the 080 Barcelona Fashion’s designers introduced it in their collections presented last July in the Modernist Hospital de Sant Pau, like JuanmabyelCuco, one of the designers who most showed it in his modern and casual looks.

The versatility of this accessory, which can be as wide as a Japanese obi or as slim as a discreet ribbon, results in the wide range of different styles and designers who have used it. Lebor Gabala presented big belts over smart spring jumpers, while Justicia Ruano accessorized her guirly looks with almost invisible ribbons. Because it’s a little detail which makes a difference, in the silhouette, the proportions and the final look. Even the Hollywood red-carpet stars have adopted the trend with the likes of Naomi Watts wearing belt included couture-dresses.

Back to the Catalan catwalk, Miriam Ponsa used the belt to structure her layered looks while Naulover added it to make a fun contrast in textures, colors and patterns. True to her style, Natalie Capell kept using obi-like belts over her long dresses but it was the tandem Menchen Tomas who made the belt their main character of their spring collection. As a part of the dress, as an almost invisible accessory or in a vivid lemon yellow, the belt was used wisely to top off their always sophisticated looks.
