Sustainability, technology and commercialization are the main axis of the program of parallel activities of the 080 Barcelona Fashion 24th edition, taking place from June 25 to the 28 at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site. The attendees will be able to enjoy some already established initiatives like the 080 fashion Showroom along with other new features of this summer edition.
Regarding the professional exhibition and trade space 080 Fashion Showroom boosted by the 080 and the Catalan Fashion Cluster (MODACC), it will host in its 8th edition on June 25 and 26 around 20 brands of womenswear and accessories like Escorpion, Teoh & Lea and Maite by Lola Casademunt, which will also walk the runway, alongside others like Anna de Manel, Bolsillo, Designers Society, Guitare, Indianes, Magan, Nou Moscada, Sita Murt and Yerse. Around 30 international buyers are expected to visit the showroom coming from Belgium, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France, Israel, USA, South Korea, Canada, Poland and Hungary. As usual, the profile of the buyer is diverse with presence of commercial agents, distributors, representatives of multibrand stores and showrooms, who will come to discover and buy the collections of the participant brands.
Technology marks the 080 Investor Day 2019, the fash-tech investment forum boosted by the Catalan Government, through the 080, and the investment platform Seed&Click with the aim of creating synergies and networking between fashion-tech startups and national and international investors, besides giving visibility to emerging designers and brands. The 10 finalists will present their projects in front of investors and a professional jury on June 26th and on thay same day we will know the winners in the Startup Category and the Emerging Brand Category, which will receive an award valued in 100,000 euros in services by this initiative’s partner brands. This forum also presents the keynote speech by Burak Camak, dean in New York’s Parsons School of Design, talking about “Sustainability and the future challenges of the fashion sector”, to tackle how sustainability is a key factor in the fashion of today and tomorrow.
Sustainability will not only be present in the fashion shows. It will also be a main element of the parallel activities and not only because of Cakmak’s speech. For example, sustainability will be one of the core ideas of the Texmeeting by TEXFOR, organized by the Textile Industry Confederation (Texfor)and established as the meeting point for the textile industry professionals. This summer it will take place on June 25th within the ITMA fair by the name of “Work Intl Progress· and will focus on the internationalization based on different perspectives, like the impact of digitalization, the increasing importance of sustainaibility on a global scope and the challenge of traceability.  More than 150 professionals are expected to attend between businessmen, designers, media and students, besides the presence of the Catalan Minister of Business and Knowledge, Àngels Chacón, who will close the activity.
There’s yet another activity that will look to sustainability: the round table “B-SEARCULAR, an opportunity for fashion. A great opportunity for the planet” on June 27th. It’s a project boosted by EPSON based on circular economy to give new uses to the plastic waste in the sea, with which can be made recycled fabrics with the Seaqual certification. Thanks to EPSON’s print technology SureColor these fabrics can be printed saving an important amount of water and energy. The result are 100% ecological designs that can be recycled to turn into polyester threads, closing the cycle. This round table will count with representatives of EPSON Iberica, of LCI Barcelona design school and will showcase the designs of fashion students of this center that have brought their creative talent to this project working.
