Barcelona presents the Catalonia Clusters space

Catalonia is a land of clusters. These business sectorial associations work to improve the competitiveness of the companies that form them and, since the nineties, the Generalitat of Catalonia has been boosting their influence through innovation, business strategy and, especially, internationalization. With this latter goal, the Catalonia Clusters space was born this summer in the Gracia district in Barcelona with the presence of Jordi Baiget, Minister of Business and Knowledge. It’s a pioneer initiative on a global level designed to foster synergies amongst the different clusters.
The Catalonia Clusters Space is part of the Catalonia Clusters Program, an initiative of the Generalitat through the ACCIÓ agency, and it’s a new service for its members. This project aims to establish as a benchmark for both companies and agents of the clusters and is home to activities of knowledge, showrooms of products and networking events among the companies. In addition, it’s also a space to connect with international clusters.
In a first phase, the Catalonia Clusters Space was home to 4 clusters: Fashion, Living, Beauty and Foodservice, which represent 290 companies. Last September, in the second phase, three more clusters settled there: Sports, Advanced Materials and Edutech. And the objective is to keep with this growth during 2017 and gather clusters of other business activities so as to foster synergies, strengthen the Catalan business fabric and, all in all, boost Catalonia’s economic development.
