Antonio Miro, with the collection “The sea”, has been the winner of the National Award 080 Barcelona Fashion to the Best Collection of the 22nd edition of the Catalan catwalk, organised by the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Trade, Crafts and Fashion Consortium (CCAM). For his part, the young Sevilla-born designer Jaime Álvarez, the name behind the emerging brands Mans Concept Menswear, has been the winner of the National Award 080 to Emerging Design by Desigual for his collection “Mans House”. It’s the second time in a row that he wins this prize after seducing the jury also last winter with his debut collection. Finally, Red Point has been recognized with the MODACC Award aimed to the exporting brands for their proposal “Natural beauty”.
The Catalan minister of Business and Knowledge, Àngels Chacón, along with the 080 Barcelona Fashion director, Miquel Rodríguez, and the general manager of Trade, Muntsa Vilalta, has chaired today’s closing act and the award-giving ceremony. In her speech, Chacón has pointed out that “the 080 is a great formula for success, not only from the point of view of fashion and looks, but also of culture and economy because of the image that it offers of our country”. The Catalan minister has reaffirmed the support of the Catalan government to design, creativity and fashion industry and has stated that “the 080 is a forward-looking initiative, and we are a government committed to the future”.
Albert Villagrasa, creative director at Antonio Miro, has confessed to “be surprised” and has congratulated the “other designers that have taken part in the catwalk, especially young designers that have shown great collections”.
Jaime Álvarez, winner in the Emerging Design category with his brand Mans Concept Menswear, has appeared to be astonished and very happy on winning the award for the second time. Touched, the young designer has thanked “the jury and the 080 platform for their trust and for understanding my ideas, and to the city of Barcelona for taking me in”.
Finally, Gemma Torrent, creative director at Red Point –winner of the MODACC Award to International Brands-, has shared her joy with all her team: “behind there is the work of many people”, she has said.
As usual, a professional jury has been in charge of chosing the winners of the 080 Awards. In this 22nd edition, the jury was formed by: Àlex Barrau Fort (Communication’s Manager Spain at Desigual), Laia Moret (fashion and prints designer and director of the Fashion Department of Escola de la Dona); Eduardo García Llamas (publicist and CEO of disruptive publishing house; Michael Gattermayer (fashion editor and subdirector of Gioia!) and Huma Hamayun (fashion and content editor at Schön! In the closing act, André Leon Talley has received the Fashion Tribute of the 22nd edition, after presenting this morning the screening of the fashion documentary “The Gospel According to André”, followed by an inspiring talk. On receiving the award, the international guest of this June 2018 edition has thanked the warm welcome to the film and has highlighted the “kindness, warmth and sophistication” that he has found in Barcelona.
