The last edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion stood out for the strong presence of Spanish models, one of the objectives of the organization. Many of them are breaking through on an international level like Mayka Merino, who, after walking at 080 for such different designers as CARLOTAOMS and Samuel Alarcón, last September went from one Fashion Week to another and established herself as one of the sensations of the season.  Only 19 years old, Mayka Merino can say that she has worked with Chanel, Proenza Schouler and Loewe in an upward evolution that establishes her as the Spanish model with better chances to become well-known worldwide.
Mayka Merino started in the industry of fashion when she was 14 but it was when she was 18 that she came across her stroke of luck. After leaving Jerez de la Frontera, where she was born, and Barcelona, where she had her base, she went to London to try to kick-off her career and she succeeded thanks to J.W. Anderson, creative director at Loewe. Shortly after that, Merino surprised everyone when she opened Prada’s spring-summer 2016 show in Milan as Prada is considered a trendsetter that has launched topmodels like Daria Werbowy, Arizona Muse and Sasha Pivovarova. From that moment on, Mayka Merino hasn’t stopped working, adding new names of designers and runway shows as well as photoshoots with top photographers like Paolo Roversi, Juergen Teller and Steven Meisel. It’s been quite a meteoric career for this model of non-conventional beauty that is set to widen the list of Spanish topmodels in a very short time.
