A showcase for Catalan design at La Roca Village

30 Jun 2014 - 00:00

As part of the opening day of the 14th edition of the 080 Barcelona Fashion, the Catalan Minister for Trade and Employment, Felip Puig, inaugurated the shop of the Barcelona Designers Collective contest at La Roca Village. The event was attended by a distinguished ambassador, Georgina Chapman, co-founder and designer for the well-known British firm Marchesa. Also, the names of the 9 budding talents that will have the honour to exhibit and commercialise their designs in the shop at La Roca Village during the following months were made public.

During the opening, the Minister Felip Puig highlighted that ‘The shop is the product of a collaborative effort that shows the agreement between different vocations that symbolise Catalonia: tourism and fashion’. Besides, he said that ‘the Generalitat bets on the re-industrialisation through the 080’, and thanked La Roca Village for collaborating with the government, as ‘people like you make possible that Catalonia has a good offer of fashion and tourism’.

The initiative was launched during the past edition of the 080 together by La Roca Village and the Generalitat, through the Consortium for Trade, Crafts and Fashion of Catalonia (CCAM) and the Catalan Tourist Board (ACT), in order to back the budding designers. An international jury has chosen, among the candidates, a total of 9 creators that will be present in the space inaugurated today at La Roca Village.

For their part, the Catalan Tourist Board (ACT) will promote the Barcelona Designers Collective project, as well as the chosen budding talents, through their international promotion scheme. The initiative counts also on the international support of the British Fashion Council (London – Bicester Village) and the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (Milan – Fidenza Village).

Also present at this event were the manager for the Consortium for Trade, Crafts and Fashion of Catalonia (CCAM), Miquel Rodríguez, the director of the Catalan Tourist Board (ACT), Xavier Espasa, and the business director for Value Retail, Elena Foguet, among other authorities.
